| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The Panasonic HDCSD20 features a 16x optical zoom. You can zoom close to catch dynamic shots of distant objects. And because the zoom is optical, there's limited image degradation. Also, Panasonic's Advanced O.I.S. helps prevent blurring - typically a big concern when shooting with a zoom. This combination of optical zoom and Advanced O.I.S. gives you the ability to take fantastic zoom shots. You get all the beauty and minimal blurring. There's nothing more disappointing than shooting a once-in-a-lifetime event on video, only to discover that the images are blurry or poorly exposed because of backlighting. Panasonic's iA helps avoid problems in difficult shooting situations by automatically making the optimal camera settings and activating certain functions. For example, iA now includes AF Tracking, a new function that "locks" on and follows a subject as it moves, so images are sharply focused and properly exposed. This technology is a huge help for everyone. HD images contain 6 times as much information as standard images. HDTV has 1,080 horizontal scan lines, SDTV has 480. That translates into much higher resolution and much finer detail. With HD images on an HDTV, pictures are so clear and sharp that you can see textures. The shift in the industry from SDTV to HDTV is well underway. For shooting once-in-a-lifetime scenes that you want to capture in full beauty, the Panasonic HDCSD20 camcorder is the best choice. Recording Format - MPEG4-AVC/H.264 (AVCHD standard complaint); JPEG (Still Image) Image Sensor (Total) - 1/6 MOS Focal Length - 2.95-47.2mm 35mm Film Camera Equivalent - 44.1-706mm [16 - 9] Filter Diameter - 43mm Lens Type - Leica Dicomar Lens Still Picture Recording - Yes; 2.1 M (1920 x 1080) [16 - 9] Recording Mode - HA (17Mbps/VBR) (1920 x 1080), HG (13Mbps/VBR) (1920 x 1080), HX (9Mbps/VBR) 1920 x 1080), HE (

| Customer Reviews: Great Camcorder!!!!! August 26, 2010 Allan S. Lyburn (MB Canada) I was going to see my brother and family in Dubai and wanted to have a new camcorder.
My old one was a Panasonic 8mm tapes but cost me a lot of money and i was not going to pay that much again.I did some web searching thought about Samsung, same as my T.V but was on the fence with Panasonic & Samsung.( Sony was to noise)The Panasonic HDC-SD20 came on sale here and i bought it in Feb from my Nephew who worked at the electronic store.I bought a Sandisk ultra 16GB memory card with it which was not cheap.I used it a bit and was getting close to leaving on or trip and decided to get a spare card, went online and got a Transcend 16GB at half the price i payed in the store.(The Sandisk was about the same price as the Transcend maybe a bit more.I herd good reviews on the Transcend and wanted to try something different. They both work well with this Camcorder.)Went on the trip had a blast camcorder worked better than i thought and was glad to have had the spare memory card,it is a must.I came home put them on DVD and watched them on my 50inch Plasma.GREAT picture and sound, colors were great in my opinion would recommend this Camcorder and software to the Guy that wants good quality family moves.I am looking at getting a spare battery for it.I get about 1 hour of HD recording on a charged battery, but it does not take long to charge it so i will bide my time and go with the same battery or one bigger just to keep it nice and light to hold, any bigger and the battery will weigh more than the camcorder. If you have a Panasonic Plasma,LCD or LED the memory card will pop right into the T.V which is cool when i go to my parents house just take the card if i have not transferred it to DVD yet and watch it.
Solid value!! June 25, 2009 J. Sagraves (Ohio) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
According to the professionals, I sacrificed picture quality for ease of operation. For those who don't know any better (and I don't), there is no sacrifice. I'm very pleased with my purchase, as I wasn't prepared to spend over $500 for an HD camcorder. It's extremely easy to use and being a beginner, there is no need for me or (more importantly) my wife, to use manual mode, putting full confidence in Intelligent Auto.
My only complaint at this point is that the mini-HDMI port has a short, requiring me to ship back for a replacement, which will not be a quick turnaround. I'm excited to get back the replacement and test out the Viera Link functions.
I don't have much to say about the included software, as I've replaced it with Sony Vegas 9. I've just been using the software to download my videos from the SDHC card to the computer. All my editing is done with Sony Vegas. If this is your first HD camcorder and you're on a budget, get this one, you'll be pleased with the quality, relieved at the ease of use and amazed at the size!
Great for the money a real value June 15, 2009 pg6922 (SW Florida) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am very happy with this camcorder. I could have paid twice as much but dont feel I would have gotten twice the camera. It has surpassed my expectations. The only cons I can think of is that the colors could be more saturated and the battery life is only about an hour.
