Product Description JVC GZ-HD5 is a high-grade, high-definition camcorder designed for explosive widescreen play on your HDTV sets. With recording up to 1080i and HDMI output up to 1080p, the GZ-HD5 uses a high-quality 10x Fujinon lens to assure bright, sharp, detailed recordings that epitomize what HD represents. The lens surface is coated with a new Electronic Beam Coating (EBC) that greatly reduces degradation caused by light reflecting off the lens surfaces, leading to greater light transmission and reduced flaring and ghosting. Optical image stabilizer contributes toward the delivery of crisp imaging.
For bright, realistic colors the HD Everio uses three 1/5-inch CCDs ? one each for red, green and blue. Naturally, by having dedicated CCDs for each primary color, the camera is able to gather the maximum visual information that leads to more realistic color reproduction and presence. The Red and Blue pixel locations are shifted relative to Green, allowing the sampled color information to be quadrupled through interpolation. Software provided for Windows and Plug-in software provided for Macintosh Full HD 1920x1080i Recording; 1080/60P Output HDMI v1.3 Optical Image Stabilization JVC HD Gigabrid Engine 4 Recording Modes 1440 CBR Recording Mode up to 5 hours @ 1440x1080 Focus Assist Function Wide Range of Manual Controls Accessory Shoe Mic Input Multiple Digital Interfaces including HDMI, i.LINK, and USB

A giant step backwards for JVC December 5, 2008 Territan 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My parents have a JVC mini-DV camcorder, purchased several years ago, which works very well for them. Sadly, that camera works better for me than this one. That one does video through i.LINK, this one doesn't. That one uses conventional mini-DV tapes. On this one, the tapeless workflow would be very nice, if the workflow worked with anything outside what tools they provide. Which, if you're on a Mac, means you get nothing but a Quicktime codec that doesn't work with Quicktime after version 7.3 (If you upgrade regularly, you're on 7.5 now and therefore screwed). The TOD format isn't recognized by Adobe Premiere Pro without a third-party codec which I hear costs a bundle, if I could even find it. I admit, I jumped on what looked like a bargain and got stung badly.
It's ok for everyday use.. November 26, 2008 R. Rivera 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the size, and fits perfectly on your hand.
The stabilized zoom doesnt work as well as other cameras.
When downloading to your computer, MAC or PC, you will need to buy the plugins to be able to import them into your video editing programs. (premiere, iMovie, Final Cut...). It has it's own proprietary file type. (MOD & TOD) which is supposed to be MPEG 2.
